Washington State Medicaid, known as Apple Health, is administered by the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA). Apple Health delivers services through both managed care and fee-for-service arrangements. The majority of Apple Health beneficiaries receive services through managed care plans under contracts with Washington HCA. Providers must complete enrollment with Washington HCA through the ProviderOne portal before they can bill for services rendered to Medicaid recipients in the state. Federal law requires that physicians and other practitioners who prescribe, order, refer, or bill services for Washington State Medicaid recipients be enrolled as Apple Health providers. This applies to both individual providers and group practices.
How Washington State Medicaid Provider Enrollment Works
When a provider enrolls with Washington HCA through ProviderOne, they are registering at the state Apple Health level. Providers who want to participate with Apple Health managed care plans must also complete a separate credentialing and enrollment process with each applicable managed care organization. These are two distinct processes, and managed care plans will not begin their review until state enrollment is confirmed.
Enrollment Type Selection
